2025 Categories, Rules and Definitions
Category F: First Time Entry
This category is for your first quilt ever entered into a show of any kind. The
entry may be of any construction technique, any size, have any finishing
method, and all work must be done by the entrant. If entering this category,
you may not enter quilts into any other category.
Category A: Bed Quilts: Large: One Person
Bed quilts are defined as a quilt meant to be used on a bed. These entries
are constructed and finished by only one person. Any technique (pieced,
applique, mixed) is acceptable. The perimeter must measure 280” or more.
Category B: Bed Quilts: Medium: One Person
These quilts are defined as those meant to be used on a bed. These entries
are constructed and finished by only one person. Any technique (pieced,
applique, mixed) is acceptable. The perimeter measures less than 280”.
Category C: Bed Quilts: Large: Two People
Bed quilts are defined as a quilt meant to be used on a bed. These entries
are constructed and finished by two people. Any technique (pieced, applique,
mixed) is acceptable. The perimeter must measure 280” or more.
Category D: Bed Quilts: Medium: Two People
Bed quilts are defined as a quilt meant to be used on a bed. These entries
are constructed and finished by two people. Any technique (pieced, applique,
mixed) is acceptable. The perimeter measures less than 280”.
Category G: Group Quilt/Collaborative
Any quilt of any size and technique completed by more than two people
Category S: Lap/Throw/Crib Quilts: One Party
Lap or throw quilts are usually not used as a bed covering. Crib quilts are
sized to fit a child’s crib. These entries are constructed and finished by one
person. Any technique (pieced, applique, mixed) is acceptable. Throw quilts
typically measure between 150” and 270”. Crib quilts most often measure
144” to 180”.
Category T: Lap/Throw/Crib Quilts: Two Party
Lap or throw quilts are usually not used as a bed covering. Crib quilts are
sized to fit a child’s crib. These entries are constructed and finished by two
people. Any technique (pieced, applique, mixed) is acceptable. Throw quilts
typically measure between 150” and 270”. Crib quilts most often measure
144” to 180”.
Category W: Wall Hanging/Art Quilt: One Person
Wall quilts are intended to be hung or displayed on a wall. Any size and
technique are accepted.
Category X: Wall Hanging/Art Quilt: Two People
Wall quilts are intended to be hung or displayed on a wall. These entries are
constructed and finished by two people. Any size and technique are
accepted.
Category M: Miniature Quilt
A miniature quilt is defined as a scaled down version of a large quilt with
blocks no larger 4”. A miniature is NOT a small quilt made with full size
blocks or fabrics. Fabric print, applique and borders should be scaled
proportionally. The maximum size is 24 x 24”.
Category O: Other/Miscellaneous
This category includes items that do not fit into any other category. Quilted
wearables, bags, totes, home décor, etc. are included in this category.
Category U: Upcycled/Reused/Unconventional Materials
The quilt top MUST contain at least 85% upcycled materials (quilting fabric
may be used for the backing in any quantity; quilt batting may be used in
any quantity). The definition of “upcycling” is the activity of making new
things out of old or used things. Please note: You may NOT use fabric left
over from another project in the quilt top. Upcycled materials are defined as
materials that were used for another purpose in a previous life. Examples
include quilts made from previously worn clothing or an old set of curtains.
Category Y: Youth Quilts:
The maker must be aged 17 or younger. Any size, style and technique are
acceptable. The quilts will not be judged but will be evaluated/reviewed by
the judge for technique. All entrants will be awarded a ribbon.
