Sew Day
In August, there will be an instructional sew day for our members. Need a little “tweaking” on your quilt making skills? This
is for you and it’s FREE!
Where: Westminster Presbyterian Church
When: August 19, 2023
Teachers:
Pat Poulson. Fundamentals of Piecing: How to have an accurate 1/4” seam. We will be working on a block of the month.
Debby Grice: Don’t Make Waves! Learn how to put your borders on so that your quilt top won’t be wavy.
TBA: Binding Basics: Learn tips about making and attaching binding.
TBA: Tell Me Your Story: Learn how to make and attach labels to your quilts.
Workshops
Annette Ornelas on September 16, 2023.
Cost is $40 for members, $50 for non-members, plus $9 pattern. Naomi passed a sign up sheet and asked members to put which pattern they wanted to learn and sew – 1) emoji or 2) pumpkin. She will start collecting money at the July meeting. Annette is a local teacher and the workshop will be held at the church.

Challenges 2023
This year there will be three challenges (April, July, November) instead of 4. Prize money has increased ($50, $40, $30).
July – Black, White, and Bright
Make something quilted – anything you want to make – baby quilt, VA quilt, wall hanging, placemats, quilted apparel, quilted bag, etc. Rules – must be quilted and include black fabric and white fabric or a black and white fabric and one bright fabric.
November – Stars and/or Stripes
Make a VA quilt – it must feature either stars or stripes or stars and stripes. Rules – cannot resemble a flag and must meet standard requirements for a VA quilt. Quilter’s name on label should be covered with painter’s tape or filled in after the challenge prizes are awarded.
UFO Challenge
1. Make a list of UFO’s you would like to see finished in 2023.
2. Finish any project that you have had lying around. Must be an older one, not something that you’re currently working on. From finishing blocks to finishing binding, whatever is holding you up from getting that project done!
3. When finished, must be shown during Show N Tell.
4. Pay $1.00 to the UFO pot for each UFO finished and you will get a ticket entering you into the drawing.
5. Drawing to be held at the December 2023 meeting. - Winner takes all the $$$
The UFO Challenge Guidelines
*Must have been started before 2023.
*Can be a quilt that is any size to include a table runner, a wall hanging, a lap quilt, and a bed quilt. *Must have three layers: top, batting, backing.
*Can be a tote bag, purse (does not have to be quilted or have batting) or an article of clothing (does have to be quilted).
*Must be at least partially made by the owner:
1. Owner made the top (but had it quilted by another)
2. Owner did not make the top {possibly purchased by or gifted} (but the owner quilted it)
*Owner must do the binding. (this is an opportunity to learn!)
*Putting just a label on the item does NOT make it a UFO.
*The item must be shown (completed) during Show N Tell.
*After showing the item, owner will pay $1.00 to the UFO fund. A ticket for each UFO completed will be given to the owner who will write their name and phone number on the ticket and place the ticket in the ticket container.
*Guild members are NOT LIMITED to one UFO a month.
*At the December meeting, one name will be drawn and the money will be awarded to that person.
(Due to the excellent questions of the guild members, The 2nd Vice President reserves the right to modify the UFO challenge guidelines only by the end of February)
